ON TO HAPPENSTANCE!

Someone asked me if it is a self imposed condition for your blogs to be limited to 200 postings. Affirmatively I replied that it was more for management purposes than a personal self-imposed condition.
As this is the last posting on this blog, the next entry will be on

happenstance0203@blogspot.com.

So do drop over to the new blog if you are an avid follower of my views on the local bourse-its up and downs, the exhiration and the dejections! The hurrahs! the phews! and the urghs!

Happy trading on the bourse!

Ronggeng at Bursar

Responding to the 207 points rise on Wall Street, Bursa came out in style adding 9 points to the CI. A quick glance at the board and one notices easily a random walk in operation. Stocks, mostly blue chips, which fell a day or two ago recovered ground. So it is actually going back and forth and then back to square one for these blue chips which made up the 9 point rise on the CI. Talk about rigging! Sheesh!

Chinese New Year is fast approaching and the pre-election talk is supposed to heat up the CI barometer. Will be market moved up so that money is to be made or are the GLCs, as usual, doing their ronggeng under the threat of a whip?

Slight Bounce!

So there was some follow-up in the afternoon session. Possibly GLCs on instructions to lift the CI. The market improved 9.17 points to 1393.25 on a volume of 806 million shares worth a value of RM1.93 billion. Gainers were slightly ahead of losers 399 to 361.

Nestle heads the gainers picking up 50 sen. LCL pushed ahead to take 45 sen,The Store climbed up 44 sen and Pelikan rose 36 sen. The losers were BKawan tumbling 40 sen;IJM dropping 30 sen;MetalR falling 28 sen and CYL slipping 23 sen.

The portfolio was so-so. Resorts World tacked on14 sen to RM3.90,Genting improved 5 sen to RM7.30 while BJ Sports Toto was better 5 sen at RM5.20. KHSB dropped a sen to 82 sen while RCE was off 0.5 sen to 78 sen. Welli went down by 0.5 sen to 56 sen while Metronic was unchanged at 13.5 sen.

A good Dow tonight can make Bursa shine tomorrow.

Bursa in Fatigue!

Try as it may, try as it might, the Dow rules and Bursa kowtows. At the lunch close, CI managed a feeble up-tick of 1.79 points moving up to 1385.87. Gainers were outran by losers 188 to 369. Volume were real low at 362 million shares worth some RM788 million. Some GLC action but insufficient to do the CI any real good.

Sime put on 20 sen along with PBBank and Biport while F&N was 15 sen better. BKawan lost 40 sen and IJM slid 30 sen. Elsewhere, MPI decreased 25 sen and Commerz lost 20 sen.

The portfolio was mixed with a losing bias. Genting added 5 sen to RM7.30 and Resorts World improved 8 sen to RM3.84.
Metronic and KHSB were unchanged at 13 sen and 83 sen but BJ Sports Toto weakened by 5 sen to RM5.10. RCE lost a sen to 77.5 sen and Welli started scuba again losing 2.5 sen to 54 sen.

Could be another dull afternoon watching paint drying and grass growing. Watching the two birds is more fun!

Silly Pussy-footing at Bursar

As Asian markets zoomed south, Bursa pussy footed and lost a marginal 4.42 points thanks to GLCs taking position to prop up the CI. The CI ended at 1384.08 with gainers losing to losers 243 to 548. Volume was small at 781 million shares worth RM1.83 billion shares;denoting blue chip purchases.

DFZ-PC shot up to gain 72 sen with Digi adding 50 sen and BKawan improving 40 sen. PPerdana moved up 38 sen. Nestle lost 50 sen while Tanjong slipped and gave up 40 sen along with Bursa. LDaun descended 38 sen.

The portfolio was dull. Welli added 2 sen to 56.5 sen and Metronic improved 0.5 sen to 13.5 sen. Remaining unchanged were BJ Sports Toto at RM5.15 and RCE at 78.5 sen. Genting lost big time, slipping 25 sne to RM7.20 and Resorts World was off 6sen at RM3.76. KHSB lost 2 sen to 83 sen.

Quite a sorry sight at Bursa this day.

Follow Up Poser on Bursa

Market started and Bursa chalked some early progress adding 9 points to the CI. By noon, it has stumbled, losing 1.07 points to 1387.43. Losers gleefully gloat at gainers 421 to 204. Volume was not too good at 379 million shares worth RM 847 million.

Digi led the gainers, putting o n50 sen;Loh and Loh improved 38 sen while IOIProp and Dutch Lady both added 30 sen each. Nestle led the losers falling 50 sen. Bursa and UMW succumbed to a loss of 30 sen each while Tanjong slipped 20 sen.

Bursa the Reluctant Apologist!

With only a miserable rebound of 7.96 points on the CI to 1388.50, Bursa is but a lame duck apologist. some semi-blues did rebound quite convincingly but generally it was a half-hearted response to a better Dow. Gainers rushed past losers 463 to 301 on a volume of 787 million shares worth some RM1.45 billion.

Unheard of counters such as Hexagon hog the limelight with an upshot of 83 sen. Kramat was in second place improving 75 sen while Digi added 60 sen. T Ocean was better by 53 sen. The losers were IOIProp and Sime Darby, both losing 30 sen each. Asiafile dropped 28 sen while BJLand was off by 25 sen.

The portfolio was very much better. Genting improved 15 sen to RM7.50 while Resorts World jumped 20 sen to RM3.82 Elsewhere,
BJ Sports Toto added 5 sen to RM5.15 and KHSB was better by 1.5 sen at 85 sen. RCE improved 0.5 sen to 78.5 sen but both Metronic and Welli succumbed to selling pressure to end 0.5 sen and 1.5 sen to 13 sen and 54.5 sen.

If the Dow moves up tonight because of a rate cut, Bursa should improve tomorrow.

Murder on the Rebounce!

Smart alecs! They thought they were smart enough to play the Bursa! Well, looks like you win some but lose plenty. The morning rebound was insufficiently elastic to bring gains to punters even though it ended noon on positive territory.

The CI barely made it with a miserable 4.09 points gain to 1384.63. Gainers saw sunlight today beating losers 322 to 282. Volume was sadly down at 384 million shares worth some RM673 million. Discouraging signs of approaching bears.

The board showed T Ocean leading with a 30 sen gain. WCT followed with a fillip of 25 sen and Aeon moved up 20 sen along with CIMA. Petgas lost 20 sen and reduced its price by 15 sen. BJLandBLD Plant slid 14 sen while Kwantas gave back 12 sen.

The portfolio was mixed. Genting managed a 10 sen gain to RM7.45 while Resorts World moved up by an equal margin to RM3.72. RCE and KHSB both moved up 1.5 sen each to 79.5 sen and 85 sen respectively. BJ Sports Toto was unchanged at RM5.10 but Welli declined 1.5 sen to 54.5 sen. Elsewhere, slow coach Metronic lost 0.5 sen to 13 sen. Metronic is one disaster counter to be in this portfolio! Do not have this in your portfolio until it shows bigger profits from their China operations!

Afternoon may see some buying interest.

Buried Alive!

The Bursa has closed out the retailers-the very people they wanted to attract in the first place. Look at the picture above. The retail community is dead because of the RM40 issue. Now, the guardians of the bursa is shifting goal-posts by putting counters that got government contracts to be component stocks. I wonder what else they would like to do? Khazanah, Valuecap and its siblings, the EPF, SOCSO,Amanah Raya, LTH and PNB have been pistol-whipped into action to shore up the CI for the impending general elections in late February-early March. The BN war-chest is already full! It is overflowing!

But when man propose, God dispose! And so through the sub-prime issue, God mow down Dow and the world equities markets. Bursa which tied to show that it has more bola than others in early January 2008 is now a victim of its own action! The CI dropped 24.86 points to 1380.56. Losers bushwhacked gainers 666 to 168. Volume was at 739 billion shares worth RM1.39 billion.

Leading the gainers were SPSetia-WB which which zoomed up 54 sen; Nestle leaped up 50 sen, Maypak added 30 sen and Loh and Loh which ascended 26 sen. The losers were AMMB which lost RM3.51. (There must be a mistake here);BAT which slipped 75 sen, Aeon which slumped 70 sen and PPB which surrendered 50 sen.

The portfolio was fully autistic! The poor savant performed dismally. Genting lost big time by 15 sen to RM7.35;Resorts World fell 10 sen to RM3.62; KHSB slipped 4 sen to 83.5 sen while RCEB
went down 2.5 sen to 78 sen.BJ Sports Toto meanwhile stood unchanged at RM5.10 but Metronic inched up 0.5 sen to 13.5 sen.

A lousy day at the stocks!

Bootlicker Bursa!

So tumbled the equities market. Give my regards to Broadway! Sheesh, talk about resilience-Valuecap etc..... bunkum propaganda. Jelly fish Bursa will not be able to stand up to the onslaught of foreign fund selling.

Malaysian retailers are very thankful to far sighted Nor, Yusily and Tzarina for keeping us away from dabbling with the RM40 shackle! Terima kasih, kami ucapkan!

So the CI capitulated and went skinny diving, losing 21.19 points. At last look, at the noon close, it was 1384.21. Losers were gloating over gainers 588 to 96. Volume shrunk to a dismal 330 million shares worth only 583 million ringgits.

The gainers were unseen counters such as Loh and Loh, rising 22 sen; unheard of ICP moving upwards by 18 sen; Narra improving 16.5 sen and Deleum ascending 13 sen. The losers saw the likes of BAT sliding 50 sen;IOICorp slipping 35 sen; losing 35 sen as well and ParksonBursa
surrendering 30 sen.

The portfolio was crying in need of solace! Genting lost a leg-dropping 25 sen to RM7.25;ResortsWorld declined 6 sen to RM3.66;KHSB slipped 2.5 sen to 85 sen while RCE gave in by 2 sen to 78.5 sen.BJ Sports Toto, Metronic and Welli remained unchanged at RM5.10,13 sen and 57 sen.

The afternoon is quite worrisome.

High Risks!

The response in barely adequate - hardly promising. In spite of clawing back 28.12 points the Bursa recovery seems uncertain at best. A lot will depend on Dow tonight. CI was at 1383.35 at the day's close. There were 730 gainers gleefully taunting 180 losers. Volume was good at RM1.48 billion shares worth some RM3.18 billion.

Gainers were high-flying BAT adding RM1.25, Bursa escalating by 80 sen;Sime Darby reclaiming 60 sen and Parkson ascending by 60 sen as well. The losers were unknowns such as Ta Ann going down 25 sen;Signature giving up 20 sen; off-loading 20 sen and TAHPSHexagon slipping 19 sen.

The portfolio was alright. Genting added 15 sen to RM7.25;Resorts added 2 sen to RM3.62;Welli adding 4.5 sen to 57.5 sen, RCE topping up 4 sen to 79 sen and
KHSB increasing 1.5 sen to 86 sen. Metronic improved 0.5 sen to 13 sen. BJ Sports Toto was unchanged at RM4.98.

Inadequate Response!

So along with the world bourses, Bursa responded with a gung-ho stance, putting on 50 points on the outset. By lunch-time almost half has been frittered away. Profit takers will take this as an opportunity to release holdings because nothing good is happening on Wall Street. Gravity in fact is strong on Wall Street!

From the looks of it, the ramped -up is again the work of GLCs propping up the CI for a show that all is well in Malaysia and time for the general election is at hand.

The CI closed at noon up 26.95 points to 1381.43. Losers were behind gainers 165 to 660. Volume of shares traded was 872 million shares valued at RM 1.71billion.

The gainers included BAT which zoomed up 75 sen,Bursa which shot up 70 sen, Digi which rang in 50 sen and Sime Darby which rose 50 sen. The losers were Nestle dropping 50 sen and Signature, Cepco and IOIProp all losing 20 sen each.

The portfolio went with the flow. Genting added 30 sen to RM7.40 while
Resorts added 6 sen to RM3.66. KHSB upped 3 sen to 87.5 sen while RCE added 5 sen to 80 sen. Welli was unchanged at 53 sen while Metronic was better 0.5 sen at 13 sen. BJ Sports Toto added 17 sen to RM5.15.

Afternoon should see more profit taking.

Dow is King. All markets were floored this day. Bursa's CI went flat at 1354.48, down a humongous 54.12 points! Losers reached 963 while gainers were subdued at 68. Volume of shares traded was 1.58 billion shares worth RM 3.65 billion.

The gainers were MetalR, moving up 30 sen; IOIProp improving 30 sen,Tien Wah rising 30 sen and Choo Bee notching up 12 sen. Losers were the great fly guys of yesterday. BAT lost RM1.50;Digi went down RM1.40;United Plant shed RM1.20 and KLK off-loaded RM1.10.

The portfolio was uneasy. Loses were heavy particularly for Genting which lost 35 sen to RM7.10;KHSB stumbled and lost 8.5 sen to 84.5 sen; Resorts went down 8 sen to RM3.60 while RCE slided 5 sen to 75 sen. Metronic also lost a sen to 12.5 sen. BJ Sports Toto was unchanged at RM4.98 while Welli improved 0.5 sen to 53 sen.

BHIC was ahead of the gainers notching up 25 sen. QSR was behind with an 18 sen gain while BJLand took in 15 sen. Unknown KBB added 11 sen. Plantation giants KLK,PPB,BKawan and Sime Darby all lost 40 sen each. GLCs are on the run!

The portfolio was equally dismal. KHSB added 0.5 sen to 98.5 sen. The rest surrendered with losses. Genting and BJ Sports Toto each lost 10 sen to RM7.70 and RM5.25 respectively. Pipe Piper beckons!

And I though Bursa was invincible! But fell it did in the afternoon session. Likely overseas fund sold down a bit as the CI went up too fast thanks to those silly antics of the GLCs. The CI got the toppler effect and fell 9.18 points to 1507.04. There were 630 sellers and only 222 gainers. Volume continued to be alright at 1.04 billion worth RM2.53 billion.

Equine-LA headed the gainers taking in 41 sen. SWKPlant was next with a gain of 32 sen,UnitedPlant climbed 30 sen while Commerz made a cool gain of 30 sen. Fronting the losers were Digi which again lost big time by RM1.20. Kulim slipped 45 sen while Sime Darby slided 40 sen. Equine also scrapped 22 sen.

The portfolio was murder! Genting got truncated by 10 sen to RM7.85, Resorts World was sold down by 12 sen to RM4.02,Welli slipped 2.5 sen to 54 sen and
RCE was off 0.5 sen to 88.5 sen. Metronic and BJ Sports Toto was unchanged at 16 sen and RM5.30 accordingly while KHSB added 2 sen to RM1.05.

The losers were led by Digi losing big-time by RM1.10,WCT followed closely sliding 25 sen. They were followed by Bursa and MMCCorp both losing 20 sen each.
