Inadequate Response!

So along with the world bourses, Bursa responded with a gung-ho stance, putting on 50 points on the outset. By lunch-time almost half has been frittered away. Profit takers will take this as an opportunity to release holdings because nothing good is happening on Wall Street. Gravity in fact is strong on Wall Street!

From the looks of it, the ramped -up is again the work of GLCs propping up the CI for a show that all is well in Malaysia and time for the general election is at hand.

The CI closed at noon up 26.95 points to 1381.43. Losers were behind gainers 165 to 660. Volume of shares traded was 872 million shares valued at RM 1.71billion.

The gainers included BAT which zoomed up 75 sen,Bursa which shot up 70 sen, Digi which rang in 50 sen and Sime Darby which rose 50 sen. The losers were Nestle dropping 50 sen and Signature, Cepco and IOIProp all losing 20 sen each.

The portfolio went with the flow. Genting added 30 sen to RM7.40 while
Resorts added 6 sen to RM3.66. KHSB upped 3 sen to 87.5 sen while RCE added 5 sen to 80 sen. Welli was unchanged at 53 sen while Metronic was better 0.5 sen at 13 sen. BJ Sports Toto added 17 sen to RM5.15.

Afternoon should see more profit taking.

Bursa is pushing the envelope!

The current of buying was tremendous-hammering blows onto the CI. Buyers were swarming the market buying off this and that. Maybank is today the darling stock! Just like Sunny above, who is our darlingest! CI went into a new high at 1489.74, up 18.97 points. Gainers were miles ahead of losers 597 to 245. Volume of shares traded was extraordinarily large at 1.25 billion worth RM3.076 billion, thanks to Maybank.

Maybank CA added 92 sen, Maybank upped 80 sen while DFZ-PB moved up 74 sen and Bursa
shot through adding another 70 sen. Losers were Nestle and BAT which slipped 25 sen each while PPB and KLK lost 20 sen each.

The portfolio followed the crest of the buying wave. Resorts added 10 sen to RM4.04,Genting notched up 10 sen to RM7.75;BJ Sports Toto improved 5 sen to RM5.30,KHSB added 3.5 sen to RM1.03 and RCE was 3 sen better at 90 sen. Welli was good with a 2 sen gain at 57 sen and Metronic finally added 0.5 sen to 15.5 sen.

A good day in spite of a marginal Dow.

Jacked Up Bursa!

The GLCs were super busy-perhaps on instructions to boost up the CI. I do not believe fund managers did it. The CI shot through to hyper space to end at 1466.67 up 31.29 points. Gainers flexed their muscles with 642 greens over losers' 206 reds. Volume was 942 million shares worth a fantastic RM2.26 billion.

Asiatic led the gainers pushing the envelop by 65 sen. IOICorp followed with a sprightly 60 sen gain alongside TM and Sime Darby. Losers were SAAG which dropped 20 sen along with Tanjong and Yikon which lost 18 sen. MPI was lower by 10 sen.

Portfoliofollowed the index. Genting added 10 sen to RM7.75; BJ Sports Toto improved 10 sen to RM5.20; Welli was 0.5 sen better at 55.5 sen. KHSB was up 2.5 sen to 91.5 sen while RCE tacked on 2 sen to 85.5 sen. Metronic was dull at its overnight level of 15 sen while Resorts slipped 6 sen to RM3.92 sen.

It was a super duper Bursa at its best on a Friday.

What is the message?

Pre-Election Ramp Up!

The CI was over the moon at the lunch break close. It closed 22.77 points at new high of 1458.15. Wunderbar! A close scrutiny will tell you it is all hogwash and a result of GLC action! Rempit - Bursar style. Gainers were miles ahead of losers 436 to 217. Volume was 437 million valued at RM991 million.

Among gainers, Asiatic tossed up a gain of 65 sen and following behind was TM with 60 sen. IOICorp and BKawan were better 50 sen. Losers were MPI sliding 30 sen, BJLand off 20 sen,SAAG down 15 sen and KFC losing 10 sen.

The portfolio perfromed alright. Genting regained 20 sen to RM7.85;BJ Sports Toto was better 5 sen at RM5.15;KHSB rose 1.5 sen to 90.5 sen while RCE was 0.5 sen better at 84.5 sen. Metronic was unchanged at 15 sen Meanwhile Resorts lost 4 sen to RM3.94 and Welli lost 0.5 sen to 54.5 sen.

Expect the afternoon session to be stable.

Two more days to raise the ruckus for Bursa before the year ends and RM40.00 goes into commission.

The Blue Chips Win Hands Down!

So what do you know? They push the bluechips to ISS and created history with the CI moving to 1427.77 up 11.96 points. a new unknown territory. Bollocks to you, Bursa. No wonder, you lead the gainers in a long, long time. There were 601 gainers compared to 241 losers. Volume was good again at 1.07 billion shares worth a very good RM1.72 billion.

The portfolio was only a shadow of the CI's performance but there were some great moments too here.
KHSB did an acrobatic leap up 6 sen to 94.5 sen while RCE added 3 sen to 91 sen. BJ Sports Toto added 5 sen to RM5.05 while Welli was better 0.5 sen to 56.5 sen. Metronic was also active, moving up a sen to 16.5 sen. Elsewhere Genting fell 10 sen to RM7.70 and Resorts shedded 8 sen to RM3.76.

A great day if you are playing the blue chips.

Bursa Stand-off?

The market proved resilient in the afternoon reducing the loss on the CI from a earlier 9 point loss to only 3.53 points loss when market closed. CI finished at 1415.81. Gainers sailed through beating losers 429 to 359. Volume continues to be low at 779 million shares worth 1.55 billion ringgits. Attributed again to Sime Darby.

There was a mixed bag of gainers. IJM, together with TM, added 40 sen. KNM and Equine both improved 35 sen each. The losers were Sime Darby losing all of yesterday's gain of 50 sen;DFZ,CIMA and Bursa lost 30 sen each.

The portfolio was not too bad with Genting scoring a 10 sen gain ex-dividend. It finished at RM7.80. Renewed buying interest also spurred KHSB and RCE to add 3 sen each to 88.5 sen and 88 sen accordingly. BJ Sports Toto lost 5 sen to RM5.00 while Resorts World ended 2 sen less at RM3.84. Welli was off 3 sen at 56 sen and Metronic downed another 0.5 sen to 15.5 sen.

Good day at the Bursa.

Brilliant Finish!

An odd day when the good ole feelings come back. Yes Bursa is well especially with Sime Darby giving wind to its flight. CI moved up dramatically by 22.36 points to 1419.34. Gainers were ahead of losers 416 to 406. Volume is not so good (only 858 million) though value is excellent (RM1.8 billion).

Among gainers, MPI took the spotlight to rise 60 sen. TM,Tanjong and Sime Darby ascended 50 sen each. Losers were hardly traded United Plantations losing 40 sen; KLK and CIMA dropping 20 sen each and Allianz moving south by 15 sen.

The portfolio was okay. Genting was good with a 10 sen gain to RM8.00, BJ Sports Toto rose 7 sen to RM5.05, Resorts added 6 sen to RM3.86 and Welli was a sen better at 59 sen. Metronic was at its overnight level of 16 sen but KHSB fell by 1.5 sen to 85.5 sen.

Let us see how Dow will perform tonight.

Bursa Tumbleweeds

Dow went down and so did tali barut Bursa. It got kelentong some 8.93 points to level down the CI to 1403.86, a whistle-stop away from the psychological level of 1400. Losers overwhelmed gainers 479 to 284. Volume shrunk a bit to 736 million shares worth RM 847 million. Overall, we see blue chips that have moved up the last two days falling like tenpins. Situationals like RCE,Welli and Metronic were better this morning.

Losers big time were Bursa the bellwether, dropping 80 sen. IOICorp also declined 35 sen. Fashionista outfit,LCL took a fall on the runway to close 35 sen down while Tanjong was also beaten to the tote closing 30 sen down. Dutch Lady saw renewed buying to close up 50 sen to RM12.70. Very impressive! Parkson and Digi also trended upwards by 40 sen each while BHIC continued its gains, this time to 30 sen.

The portfolio was so much better today on the background of a listless day. Genting stopped its fall to rise 5 sen to RM8.15. Resorts also gained 2 sen to RM3.86. KHSB, however, fall by 0.5 sen to 97.5 sen. Meanwhile, Metronic moved up on heavy volume to clinch a 1.5 sen gain to 18.5 sen while Welli was buoyed by news of its takeover of Gardenia Thailand. It rose 4 sen to 94.5 sen. The medal of valour should be given to RCE which catapulted 7 sen to RM1.10. BJ Sports Toto was at its overnight level of RM5.05.

Afternoon session is expected to see consolidation as most investors are sidelined to await the possible rate cut by the Feds.

Steaming along..........

So the magic 1400 threshold has been breached yesterday and Bursa steamed along. The bellwether Bursa counter went to the ISS with a RM1.60 gain. What a whopper! So is Jarah on top. She sure is one good looker! Hope Bursa continues to look as provocative as Jarah.

CI scaled to a new height of 1411.62, adding a fabulous double-digit gain of 13.27 points. Gainers ran ahead of losers 646 to 281. Volume was 2.1 billion worth RM2.57 billion. Rancak! Gainers included Bursa, Muhibbah,KLK
and Commerce. The last three added 50 sen each. Losers were sparse, losing little. They included. Suncity, MISC, RHBCap and GPacket, all losing between 15-17 sen.

Portfolio was stable with some slight gains registered. Genting,Metronic,Welli and BJ Sports Toto traded unchanged at their overnight levels of RM8.40;18 sen,90.5 sen;RM5.05. Meanwhile RCE added half a sen to 93.5 sen while KHSB spurted up 1.5 sen to RM1.101 on renewed buying support. Resorts clinched an 8 sen gain to RM3.88.

A good day, by my reckoning.

Resilience to the last seconds....

I think Bursa has come of age. It could take the morning hour sell down of the Synergy Drive component stocks that sent the index down. The wings of MAS was also clipped in the process. Some stocks however went against the current-namely JAKS,KHSB and KPS. This gave the market confidence and by 12 noon, the market was already starting to head upwards.

CI was back in green territory by 4 pm notching up 2.88 points to 1369.84 and I believe, all the investors in the trading halls must surely be smiling and nodding their heads in agreement with Bursa's tenacious performance. Gainers were even to losers 416 to 410. Volume continued to be superb at 1.25 billion shares worth RM1.9 billion.

Gainers saw Ahmad Zaki clinching 62 sen,IOIProp ascending 50 sen;Hexagon putting on 47 sen and BHIC notching up 44 sen. Good gains. Losers included Digi which lost 50 sen;CIMA which went down 25 sen and Tanjong and Asiatic which both slided 20 sen.

Portfolio was real good today. JAKS topped the list with an 11 sen gain to RM1.11 while KHSB popped up 7.5 sen to RM1.06.Welli, Resorts and RCE all added 2 sen to RM1.04;RM4.00 and 92 sen respectively. AMDB added 0.5 sen to 42.5 sen while Metronic is in comatose in Stockmarket IJN reclining at its overnight level of 15.5 sen. I think it is the end of the road for this buster! Meanwhile Genting stayed put at RM8.45.

If Dow goes goes positive tonight, Bursa will have a good run tomorrow before profit taking and force selling begins in the afternoon.

Like the parrot above which mimics sounds, do not rush in mob rush-hour buying at 9.00 a.m.

Patience pay. Wait and you can always buy lower another day!

Fortitude amidst Madness

Bursa showed resilience again when the fun managers dumped the Synergy Drive counters and knocked out MAS. CI took a beating on the opening bell. By the noon close, CI was so much better at 1361.44 points down a marginal 5.5 points. Losers beat up gainers 445 to 249. Volume is good at almost 600 million shares while value is very good at RM 844.5 million.

Hexagon led the gainers adding 62 sen followed by UMW with a top-up of 30 sen. BHIC advanced 26 sen to 26 sen and so did SHL. Losers were losing 50 sen;DigiCIMA also dropped 50 sen while MISC and SPSetia dropped 25 sen each.

Portfolio was about fair. JAKS went up 7 sen to RM1.07, KHSB up 4.5 sen to RM 1.04, Welli and Resorts up 2 sen each to RM1.04 and RM4.00 respectively. Meanwhile, RCE managed to add a sen to 91 sen. AMDB lost 0.5 sen to 41.5 sen, Genting lost 5 sen to RM8.40 and BJ Sports Toto lost 6 sen to RM4.94.

I hope the market will close positive at the close as belated bargain hunters may be in for the run.

Hot and loving It!

Bursa has begun the long awaited bull run for Hari Raya and Deepavali. Thank you Bursa for your capacity to move up in tandem with world markets. CI went up to 1368.72 after chalking up an impressive double digit gain of 21.67 points. The market was real hot just like the two passionate red hot lovers in the picture above.

Gainers lead losers 605 to 293. Volume was impressive at 1.57 billion shares worth RM2.9 billion. Among gainers, IOIProp jumped RM1, MAS soared 78 sen, VADS extended its gain by 75 sen and LCL upped 45 sen. Very impressive gains. Losers saw the likes of Lion Div which dropped 40 sen;BAT which slided 25 sen;AEON which lost 20 sen and SPSetia which loyally stooped down by 10 sen.

The portfolio,on balance, was good. More gainers than losers. Like a steed,
Genting continued to gallop on, adding 20 sen to RM8.40 while Welli shot up like a bolt to finish 17.5 sen better at RM1.14. BJ Toto added 7 sen to RM5.05 while Resorts notched up 6 sen to RM4.98. Meanwhile, KHSB ascended on renewed buying support which sent it up 5 sen to RM1.00. AMDB also moved up by a marginal 0.5 sen to 40 sen. Losing out was JAKS and RCE each losing a sen to RM1.00 and 93 sen respectively. As usual, Metronic was bogged down in the twilight zone-stuck at its overnight level of 15.5 sen.

A good market day. It was fun in the afternoon. We must have more of this.

Fake Hollow Platform

Watch out for the mirage CI. It went up 10.75 points today, closing at 1347.65 points. But mind you, 9 points belongs to Telekoms Malaysia (TM). So, effectively, the index is sitting on a fake hollow platform. So watch out!

However, market breadth continues to be excellent at 1.09 billion shares valued at a wondrous RM1.86 billion. There were 448 gainers and 365 losers. Among gainers, TM blasted to the galaxy with a 90 sen gain; BHIC moved up 56 sen, Lion Div topped up 50 sen while CIMA notched up 30 sen. Losers saw the likes of solid blues
Nestle and Sime losing 30 sen each;DFZ continuing its southerly direction to Penguinland dropping off another 30 sen and SPSetia shaving off 15 sen.

Portfolio was okay with red-underweared JAKS playing Superman;shooting to the stars with a 16 sen gain to RM1.01 and Genting putting on 15 sen to RM8.20.
RCE saw fresh buying support closing at 94 sen for a 2 sen gain while KHSB added 0.5 sen to 95 sen. At their overnight levels were Welli at 96.5 sen, Metronic at 15.5 sen and Resorts at RM3.92. Meanwhile,AMDB lost 0.5 sen to 39.5 sen while BJ Sports Toto dropped 2 sen to RM4.98.

Watch Dow Jones tonight to see whether the Bursa will hold tomorrow.

Off and Running!

One of the better morning sessions. Good running start like that pair of mutts up there. CI was brought to a good level of 1334.91 by a double digit gain of 14.02 points. Gainers clobbered losers 481 to 232. Volume was fabulous at 688 million shares and value was excellent at RM1.03 billion.

Among gainers were Lion Div upping 70 sen; UMW revving up 40 sen, PPerdana
leaping up by 40 sen as well and F&N gaining 30 sen. Losing were Quality off 25 sen;DFZ dropping 16 sen, Kwantas falling 15 sen and Dutch Lady down 10 sen.

The portfolio was mixed to better. Genting continued to move upwards adding another 10 sen to RM8.10. BJ Sports Toto similarly added 10 sen ex-dividend to RM4.96. JAKS saw some action adding 2 sen while KHSB move up a sen to 94 sen. Metronic recovered 0.5 sen to 16 sen. AMDB and Resorts stayed at their overnight levels of 39.5 sen and RM3.94 sen. Meanwhile, Welli lost a sen to 95.5 sen and RCE dropped 2.5 sen to 94.5 sen.

I believe the local GLCs are still buying until a week before Hari Raya. So market should be good. With the support of Dow Jones, Bursa should move up incrementally to bring more joy to investors, day traders and speculators.

My hope is the move-up should be more broad-based and not be limited to the blue chips level.

Tired and Weak Bursa

I could sense Bursa was trying to put Humpty Dumpty together again in the afternoon session but I guess the flesh was weak for Bursa. Look at Tamara above and you know why-lah- weak at the knees....

Tried it did and finally it added 0.92 points elevating the CI to 1298.85. That is less than 1.2 points to overcome the psychological 1300 level. I guess it will be broken first thing in the morning if Dow is supportive tonight. Tomorrow will be the most opportune day to lift up the home market for a run for Hari Raya. Gainers thumped losers 521 to 326 and volume was pretty good at 1.3 billion shares worth a healthy RM1.93 billion.

Gainers were Transmile, still shooting for the stars gaining another 57 sen. BAT added 50 sen while KPS moved up 26 sen. UMW advanced 20 sen. Losers were Petgas which pooped 30 sen, DFZ still on a losing streak, dumping another 28 sen, MISC lost 25 sen at sea and Tanjong lost its forecast by 25 sen.

The portfolio is interesting today. Here goes....

Genting outperformed increasing 20 sen to RM7.85
BJ Sports Toto advanced 14 sen to RM4.90
KHSB ran ahead by 6 sen to RM1.14 (Volume: 172,201 lots)
JAKS leaped up 3.5 sen to 95 sen (Volume: 180725 lots)
RCE collected 3 sen to 91 sen (Volume: 126,298 lots)
AMDB tacked on 2 sen to 44.5 sen (Volume: 201,964 lots)
Welli added 1 sen to RM1.01
Metronic was unchanged at 17 sen
Resorts World slided and lost 8sen to RM3.96

The market should do better with the stimulus of the 2008 Budget. Since it is an election budget, it will be good for both the individual and the corporation.

So a rationale person would expect Bursa to run ahead of the release of the Budget and accordingly should springboard Bursa on its trek to the much desired 1400 level.
