The Charge of the Fund Brigade

And so came the calvary and the artillery. They knee-jerked the CI up 24.74 points to 1413.85. What a show! Just to show Malaysia Boleh after the SSI! Gainers and losers were about matched 441 to 412. Volume was pretty good at 1.3 billion shares worth RM1.87 billion. Gainers did well. BAT flew the coop adding RM1.25; KLK soared a ringgit and Tanjong scored a hit notching up 80 sen. IOIProp also climbed by 60 sen. Losers lose little. DFZ went down 26 sen, MSC fell 25 sen, TM slided 20 sen while JTiasa finished off 16 sen.

The shadow portfolio was not too good, though. It failed to keep pace with the CI. Resorts added 6 sen to RM3.84, KHSB increased 3 sen to RM1.05 while BJ Sports Toto upped 2 sen to RM5.00.
At their overnight levels were dullard Metronic at 17.5 sen and Genting at RM8.20. Falling Humpty-Dumpty style by 1.5 sen was Welli, the new kid on the block to 86 sen and promising RCE slid 0.5 sen to 94 sen.

Tomorrow is Happy Deepavali and so this blog salutes the Hindus and wish them the best of this festival.

A Red Letter Day

What is she whispering? Plantation stocks? Yes, she is echoing Citigroup's recommendation to buy into plantation stocks because of the upside potential for palm oil prices. I guess the foreign fund managers are taking that recommendation seriously-hook, line and sinker seeing how our lovely lady is mouthing it so amorously above.

The CI went to a delightful level of 1405.49; thanks to a 16.38 points increase. There were 398 gainers compared to 333 losers. Volume was 753 million shares worth a fantastic 939 ringgits.

Leading the charge for the gainers were
KLK upping a ringgit. IOICorp followed with a 60 sen gain. Bursa topped up 40 sen while Tanjong rose by 30 sen. TM lost 20 sen and MPI by 15 sen. Nestle and Naim lost a miserly 10 sen each.

In spite of the good CI, the portfolio did not match up to it. KHSB did it again by moving up 7 sen to RM1.09 while Resorts rise 2 sen to RM3.80. RCE was at 94.5 sen, its overnight level while Welli and Metronic each dropped 0.5 sen to 87 sen and 17 sen. BJ Sports Toto lost 2 sen to RM4.96 while Genting was off by 5 sen to RM8.15.

I expect the CI to moderate to a 8 to 10 points overall daily increase when afternoon close as profit taking sets in ahead of the Festival of Lights.

Will Fortune Shine?

For those who waited and bought in, market reversed the losing trend and moved into plus territory before the close. Market was up 4.38 points to move up the index to 1389.11. There were 606 gainers compared to 227 losers Volume was 1.15 billion shares worth RM1.602 billion. Meanwhile Metronic stayed at its overnight level of 17.5 sen. KHSB became a superman and rose 7 sen to RM1.02.

Tomorrow will be watershed Wednesday if Dow lends its support tonight.

Will the kingfishers fly or will they get fried?

Sleeping Bursa

Now, what do we have here? It's that Spanish razzle-dazzle Penelope Cruz, a national treasure of Spain! Amorous, delectable and provocative. She will give you the hots!

But Bursa-I cannot equate Penelope to the billions on bursa. Bursa sucks! This is yet another day, where it stunk to high heaven; falling by a further 4.3 points, dragging the CI to 1380.43. Losers and gainers were engaged in a tug-of-war 350 to 345. Volume is shrinking. Traded share amounts to 505 million with a worth of RM642 million.

Among gainers were BAT smoking on a high to rise 75 sen. Tanjong won on a bet to up 30 sen while Loh & Loh reconstructed itself to move up 26 sen. Parkson netted a 25 sen gain. Losers lost little percentage-wise. Digi lost a mere 20 sen and so did KNM and Commerz. IOICorp gave up 15 sen.

The portfolio continues to be dull. Resorts added a token 2 sen to RM3.72 while KHSB notched up 0.5 sen to 95.5 sen. Genting was asleep at its overnight level of RM8.15;so was RCE at 92.5 sen and BJ sports Toto at RM4.94. Meanwhile Welli sunk lower than the Titanic losing 0.5 sen t0 86 sen.

Unless a fresh breath of GLC and foreign funds come in, Bursa will be in deep siesta through-out the afternoon session.

Sinking Feeling!

The GLCs are a queer lot. When the market is ripe for the picking, they desert it. That speaks volumes for GLCs and their management quality. Meanwhile, foreign funds are selling. Some may be swapping counters to plantations and O&G.

Looking at today's fall, most of the counters that contributed to the fall were GLCs themselves. Bursa was the biggest kingpin to fall, taking a rap on the knuckles from Citigroup's adverse recommendations. CI fell to 1384.73, down 12.75 points. Gainers were rubbed out by losers 181 to 774. What is assuring is volume of shares traded continues to be good at 1.35 billion shares worth a note-worthy RM1.7 billion.

Losing big time was Bursa, which was hit by selling pressure. It fell 80 sen. Petra, similarly, fell by 45 sen followed by Dutch Lady registering a 30 sen drop. Tanjong was off 30 sen as well.

The shadow portfolio was uneasy at best. Except for Genting which managed a 5 sen gain to RM8.15 and KHSB which inched up 0.5 sen to 95 sen,the other six counters were losers. BJ Sports Toto declined 6 sen to RM4.94, Resorts dropped off 4 sen to RM3.70 while RCE gave up 2.5 sen to 92.5 sen. Metronic was 0.5 sen off at 17.5 sen while Welli slumped to a new low by falling to 86.5 sen.

Dow will be the determiner tonight if Bursa will sink like the Titanic or rise like a phoenix!

Before leaving the blog, look at alluring Addison. That is a million dollar smile!

Bursa is suffering again from...............

Dow is up but Bursa is suffering from diarrhea. CI lost 7.74 points to hover around 1389 points. Volume was 697 million shares worth RM 725 million. Losers overwhelmed gainers 569 to 218. Gainers included BAT which rose 75 sen,PIE which shot up 40 sen, Loh & Loh given new life to climb 26 sen and TM which took in 20 sen. Bursa lost 30 sen, KLK by the same amount, Both GPacket and BLand lost 26 sen each.

Portfolio was uninteresting with only KHSB moving up 3 sen to 97.5 sen. Genting was unchanged at RM8.10 while Metronics lost 0.5 sen to 17.5 sen. Resorts lost 2 sen to RM3.72 while Welli dropped 0.15 sen to 88 sen. RCE also came down to 93.5 sen, losing 1.5 sen. BJ Sports Toto also went south, losing 6 sen to RM4.94.

Can expect prices to be better now that oil prices have fallen due to cessation of hostilities in the Turkey-Kurdistan frontier.

Bursa must be innovative like the lady up there to attract more investors.

Comprende, yosleeee??

Bursa Kecut!

One look from this perempuan and Bursa kecut! That's right, even with Superman Dow, Bursa is a big,fat zero! Frightened of degrading exercise by angmoh Citigroup. Legs between the tail. Siapa makan lada, dia yang akan merasa pedasnya! So, what is your problem? Gerrymandering the counters? Yeh? with GLCs! Bad boys...

Okay, CI went down marginally, lost 1.69 points to 1411.96. Still good-lah. Shares traded was 840 million worth RM1.02 billion. Masih baik. Losers tendang gainers 483 to 314. Among gainers, were plantation stocks,Kulim,KLK and
Batu Kawan which chalked up hefty gains. Kulim took in 65 sen, KLK;50 sen and Batu Kawan, 30 sen. High-end property developer, SPSetia moved up 20 sen. Here are the losers. Commerce-a Citigroup downgrade candidate kaputed 40 sen;Aeon was relieved of 30 sen, IOICorp lost 20 sen and VADS slided 15 sen.

The portfolio took a hit as well. BJ Sports Toto lost 5 sen to RM5.05,Resorts plunged 6 sen to RM3.78 while Welli slided 2 sen to 91 sen. Similarly, RCE fell by 1.5 sen to 98.5 sen and KHSB
went down by 0.5 sen to 97 sen. Metronic stayed at its overnight level of 18 sen. Genting, however, took in a gain of 10 sen to move up to RM8.35.

Expect the afternoon to be influenced by siesta fever. It will be one dull market again.
